I remember Lt. Dermyer when he was working as a VA Police with the US Dept of Veterans Affairs. He was an intelligent young man with a kind heart. He was a natural. The entire law enforcement community has lost not only a brother but someone who cared about his job. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the Virginia State Police. RIP brother!

My prayers go out to the family.... I know too well the pain that you are going thru. The love of my life died in 2002. He too was shot on a greyhound bus.. He too was not wearing his vest. Jaime Rodriquez from Texas was searching the bus for narcotics and was shot and killed. It's been since 2002 and the pain is as if it was yesterday. Again my prayers to the family.

Trooper Chad Dermyer, during your tour of duty you first served the citizens of this county as a member of the United States Marine Corps and then the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia with honor and pride, it is now our time to rest with all of the other heroes that have gone before you. We will carry on from here. To the family of Trooper Chad Dermyer you all are in our thoughts and prayers. The Law Enforcement family will stand beside you. To the men and women of the Virginia State Police hold your heads high as you all carry on during these difficult times. Stay Safe. Chad as you enter through the gates of Valhalla your arrival will be hailed by Odin himself. Fair Winds and Following Seas Devil Dog.

Chad is my cousin's wife's son. I don't have the words. He was an outstanding man in every regard, whose goal in life was to help other people. Perhaps faith doesn't have to be unquestioning, it just has to be faith; unceasing, unbending, and unflinching. Your children's children will assuredly know who you were Chad.

My heart goes out to Trooper Dermyer's family, his friends and his brother's and sisters of the Virginia State Police. I didn't know this fine young man who gave his all serving his state. He was a Marine, and a Va. Trooper, he was a hero beyond words. Heaven is a safer place today for it has a Marine and a Virginia State Trooper on patrol. Rest in peace my friend and may God bless your loving family
