This officer was a great friend of my buddy Charley Riddle. Charley is now a Customs and Border Patrol Explorer. Charley asked me to come up and be with him for the deputy's funeral. Sadly I was unable to make it but this deputy was an amazing person and he died a hero.

John's death is such a tragedy. He was not only a good friend and neighbor; he was an honorable, hard working deputy sheriff that loved his law enforcement career. As John's Field Training Coordinator, I watched John's career blossom form his first day in Field Training to his final assignment as a Traffic Crash Investigator. He arrived for roll calls at work with an infectious smile and with enthusiasm to serve and protect the citizens of Hillsborough County, each and every day. John has left everlasting memories with those that have met him, his friends, and with those that had the pleasure and opportunity to work with him. His dedication to life and to his profession will be remembered forever. Rest in Peace John!
