I didn't know Jason very well but I had worked with him on the evening shift and known him prior to his becoming a Fargo officer.

I knew him first as a police explorer with the department and remember him doing many ride alongs. I also remember that as an explorer he would bring along his own big police flashlight. Some of us thought it was silly at the time, but the reality is that Jason had a great deal of passion growing inside of him and he wanted nothing more than to be a Fargo Police Officer. That was admirable. I suspect his dream came true when he was hired by FPD.

As an officer on the shift I worked I observed him always with a smile. I never saw any negative attitude or overly egotistical confidence in him. He was fair and honest. Willing to help. Willing to bring a laugh to the shift briefings and was a team player. All the things a police officer should be.

Rest in peace Jason. Watch over those you leave behind. Find comfort in God's arms. You have paid the ultimate price. You will not be forgotten.
