Reflections for Deputy First Class Mark Franklin Logsdon

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

My name is Stephen W. Graham, City of Utica, N.Y. Police Department (Ret). I am retired, living in Lake Meade, PA, about a half an hour North of the MD border.
I am presently listening to Dep. Hogsdon's Funeral live, on TV with tears in my eyes. I hear and feel his many loving eulogies given with love and respect for Mark , from his family, friends and fellow beloved officers.
I have been to too many similar memorials.
I never met Mark, Dep. Dailey or any other of my brave brothers that answered this call resulting in their EOW. I pray for them and theirs and love them for who they are and what we all have done for our communities out of Love.

Dear Family of Senior Deputy Mark Logsdon,

I knew Mark just from going into the Wawa on Rt 1 each morning before work to get my coffee. As he stood in the same area each day, I would nod & smile and he would too. Sometime, at the coffee bar, he & some employees had light hearted conversation, and I could tell he was well liked. I just wanted to let you know. I did not know Patrick, but my sadness is with him & his family as well. I thank both officers for their service all the time putting their lives out there, and this, I cannot imagine. So nice of all Harford Co Wawas collecting donations, as to where I gave mine on Rt 1.
God Bless You and Your Family..Think of The Good Memories

Deputy Mark Logsdon you are in our thoughts and prayers as well as the loved ones you left behind. You served your country and your county and were a good man. Abingdon is my home town, just minutes from where this all took place. You are a hero for answering the call of duty and in the face of madness never backing down or letting our community down. Now you can watch over us from heaven and know in our hearts and minds you will always be. Thank you for your service and restoring the publics faith that not all policeman are bad, there are many good ones that go day to day doing their job never looking to be recognized just trying to serve and protect as they vowed to do. That is you my friend.

God Bless You Mark
