Reflections for Police Officer Douglas Scott Barney, II
No Police Officer should ever be shot serving in the-line-of-duty. Officer Barney had served in law enforcement for 18 years and was assigned to the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake's Holladay Precinct. He was survived by his wife and three children. We need police more than ever, let's change this!

Our hearts are broken at the loss of another officer, and we feel it even closer as it occurred in our home state. Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Barney's family as they begin to process his tragic loss. We mourn with the officers of the Unified Police Department of Salt Lake City and send our deepest regrets.

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.
Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray, “Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, family and loving, caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name, Amen”
I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for the past four years. Feel those prayers. God is with you, He knows and will ease your pain.
Faith helps us see beyond the grave.

Such an unnecessary, needless tragedy. My heart goes out to the family of Officer Barney and his co-workers. Officer Barney is indeed a hero, one who paid the ultimate price to protect us. God Bless our men and women in Blue, who go to work every day, not knowing if they will see their families again.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
