Mr. Galvez was my Aflac client, and I remember him doing a welfare check on my spouse- here in Downey CA.
He was a great police officer- and very nice- who supported his mother and sister, according to the information I saw.
We will miss him.

This week my class was given the task of preparing a note in memory of a fallen officer on the grinder by our RTU staff. For some reason, your name stuck out like a sore thumb from the many names on the wall. I could not explain it at the time why your name stuck out from the bunch, but a gut feeling told me that I had to look up your story. After some research on what had happened that led to your end of watch, I understood that gut feeling I was getting. Even now, it is difficult to convey my thoughts into words as I try to type this.
I remember a while back before starting the academy, a friend of mine who is a peace officer told me that this job is unforgiving and that I should always keep my head on a swivel regardless if I'm on or off duty. The perpetrators who targeted you were not even aware that you were a police officer and according to news sources, you were not in uniform nor armed. The perpetrators were apparently fleeing a scene and just wanted to rob you. Such incidents like this upset me because I think why is it that the best people are always taken away by people who shouldn't be around. I regularly remind myself that I too must always keep my head on a swivel and made it a daily habit to always be aware of my surroundings. It is my hope that one day I too can live up to the positive qualities you had for your fellow officers and community.

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

I had the honor to attend your funeral sir, it was an eye opening experience and even though I did not know you personally, I felt like if I had lost someone close to me. At the time I was a Police Explorer for the City of South Gate but know I am a current recruit for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. I am learning that Law emformcement is not just any job but a giganitc family. A family that looks out for each other no matter what, we will always have each others six and if it comes to it we would give our life to defend each other. Thank you for your service and we will alwasy remember you. Rest in Peace.

Respectfully,
My name is Ortega, Jonathan. I am currently a recruit for the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department, we were given the privilege to prepare a small note in memory of a fallen Officer in the line of duty. When given the task, the first fallen Officer that came to mind was police Officer Ricardo Galvez due to the fact that it was so close to home. Although I personally did not know officer Galvez his story was heard all over the nation. I had just graduated from Downey High school the year before the incident, I recall taking a run to the station a few days later after the incident and seeing the memorial, full of flowers ,candles, and loved ones. Officer Galvez was a true hero, a person who was loved respected and honored. I hope one day I have the same privilege of wearing a uniform and making a difference one day at a time. My deepest condolences

Sir,
I knew you were a good person and had a kind heart through mutual friends. I had the privilege to honor you during a run at a LASD memorial torch run in May 13, 2016. Honoring you during the run made me realize how one person can influence myself as well as others. Now that I'm attending the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Academy, it has given me the opportunity to continue to honor your remembrance with greater pride. Thank you for your service, Just know you are never forgotten.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Ricardo was killed.
To the Galvez family, fellow officers, and all who call Ricardo beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
My son was your brother in green as well as blue, and I thank Ricardo for his service in the Corps and bid him temper fi.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Galvez gave to his community and the citizens of California and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on November 18, 2015.
