Reflections for Investigator Steven Martin Sandberg
Steve,
It's been a while since we last spoke, since we last laughed...and we always laughed.
I visit you every year on this morning..no matter where in the world I am..no matter what the weather is...no matter how far I have to travel ..to kneel at your grave under the dark skies..and weep for you, the loss of you..
I know your on that "big beach" in the sky, finally able to "eat the fruit and drink the water" that you could not reach from your place here on earth.
The world is a better place only because you were here...I miss you...still

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Steve was killed.
To the Sandberg family, fellow officers, and all who call Steve beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Investigator Sandberg gave to his community and the citizens of Minnesota and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 18, 2015.

My heartfelt condolences to Investigator Sandberg's family, friends, and fellow colleagues of the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office. 2 Timothy 3:1 states the times we are living in are "critical". The times we are living are very evident from reading the incident details of another senseless act of violence towards a LEO. Despite the times we are living in, there is hope, especially for our loved ones that have fallen asleep in death. Revelation 21:3,4 reads "he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." I pray God's promises concerning our loved ones who have fallen asleep in death bring comfort to all who knew investigator Sandberg

Deputy Sandberg,
I was guarding a prisoner at a hospital in MN at the very same time you were killed. I was shocked and deeply saddened at the news when I returned to the police department that day. I will always remember the sacrifice you paid, protecting the citizens of Aitkin County. I attended your funeral on that cold rainy day along with thousands of brothers and sisters. I had a hard time wondering why your life was taken that Sunday morning in St. Cloud. It could have just as easily been me. Rest in peace my brother....You will never be forgotten...
