I received a letter today requesting a department patch for a memorial for Officer Alia. I researched the internet for information on Officer Alia and to learn what had happened. I read about a fellow officer that had his life taken, while in his prime, with a young wife and newborn son. A wife who must now carry on without her husband and a son who must grow up without a father. The pictures I saw were of an Officer that was not only proud of his profession, but also a happy and proud husband and father.

It is impossible to know what his wife and son have gone through and how they will endure the loss of their husband and father. But I am sure the men and women of the Forest Acres Police Department will be there for the Alia family, supporting them in any way possible. And I know that they shall meet Gregory again in Heaven;

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Rev 21:4, KJV

When will the senseless killing of our brothers and sisters stop? Although I did not know Officer Gregory Alia, I feel the pain that his family, department, and community is experiencing and will continue to feel for years to come. Enough is enough! Rest in peace and know that your service to your community has been with honor. Now you will patrol the streets of Heaven where you will not have to worry about crime and criminals, but the glory that has been promised to all of us who believe. RIP

It's hard to believe it's been a year. When officer Alia died I blamed myself. I thought that i should have taken that bullet. I would have taken that bullet if I could that day. I cried and cried. I know Officer Alia is at peace now. No more will he feel any pain. I know he is watching his wife and his beautiful son grow up from his place in heaven. Officer Alia, you shall never be forgotten. Thank you for your service. Thank you for your sacrifice.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Greg was killed.

To the Alia family, fellow officers, and all who call Greg beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Alia gave to his community and the citizens of South Carolina and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 30, 2015.

My condolences to Officer Alia's wife, son, parents, friends, and colleagues of the Forest Acres Police Department. Another senseless act of violence toward one who is trying to protect and serve. Romans 13:1,2 reads "let every person be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God, the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God. Therefore, whoever opposes the authority has taken a stand against it will bring judgement against themselves." If many in this violent world followed this direct command from God, this world would be such a better place. 1 John 5:19 and 1 Timothy 3:1 states that the "whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one" and we are living in "critical times". Despite the deteriorating conditions of this world, there is good news ahead, especially for Officer Alia. Revelation 21:3,4 reads "he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." I pray that God's promise of reversing the affects of death and mourning for our loved ones who have fallen asleep in death bring comfort to all who knew Officer Alia.

When I recently went by Richland mall where this brave officer was killed, and it was extremely difficult just to think that this selfless father, husband and sheepdog took his last breaths in the same place I was. I am no more than a police supporter, but if I had the chance, I would take a bullet to save any officer. I believe if I did this the officer could go on back to his family and also back to the job so my sacrifice could let the officer save more lives. For as long as I live, I will never forget this officer's sacrifice. He didn't do it for the money, he did so he could save lives. He put his life on the line every day to keep us safe. Let us never forget brave officer Greg Alia.
