Deputy Sheriff Darren Goforth was a key inspiration for me to start my career in Law Enforcement. I worked with him for 2 years prior to becoming a peace officer, and encountered him on multiple occasions; sometimes volunteering help, and most other times, asking him for his help. He did everything with a smile, and I know for a fact that he is and was a great man filled with goodness. Deputy Goforth would never hurt anyone, and this tragic act of cowardice is completely devastating. I am proud to have known him for the 2 short years I did. I will miss you, my friend and brother. You earned your wings, Blue Angel! Fly high and protect us on our watch! I'll give my all to make you proud! Rest well, brother, we'll HOLD THE LINE!

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for over four years. Feel those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.

I as a law enforcement officer and those brothers/sisters that stand with me understand that each and every time we put on our uniform that we may not come home at the end of our shift. We train and prepare to the best of our ability to be able to protect ourselves and others from the evils in this world. This is not something we prepare for nor should ever expect to happen. The mere cowardliness and vicious actions that took Deputy Goforth life is nauseating. My deepest heartfelt prayers go to his family, co-workers, Harris County Sheriff's Office and the State of Texas. May the love of friends, family and GOD sustain you.

A portion of a letter written by President Abraham Lincoln, printed in the Boston Evening Transcript on November 25, 1864.

“I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic (he) died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
A. Lincoln”
