"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

My thoughts, prayers, and sincere condolences go out to the family of Trooper Vincent's family and friends. Like so many of us he also served in the military and in doing was willing to risk his life in defending this country.

Everyone in law enforcement has experienced the tragic loss of a fellow officer and reflect on it. We are blessed with knowledge that in the field of law enforcement we are one very large family and the loss of officers across the country truly impacts all of us in some manner. God Bless Trooper Vincent and his family. He is yet another Hero in his quest to serve and protect without regard for his personal safety.

Trooper Steven Vincent:

My Brother in BLUE, It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that I recognize and thank you for your service, loyalty, dedication, courage, and ultimate sacrifice in the line-of-duty for the citizens of the State of Louisiana and the Louisiana State Police. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God" Matthew 5:9. "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends" John 15:13. During this time of mourning, let us not dwell on the horrible circumstances surrounding your murder, rather let us celebrate all the good you passed along to many during your lifetime; your family, friends, colleagues, and the citizens of the state you served so well! Death is not the end! It does not have the final say! "Truly, I [Jesus] say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise" Luke 23:43. "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away" Revelation 21:4. Rest in peace now Steve, we will take it from here! May the Lord bless you always.
