Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Detective Sergeant Christopher Dan Kelley

"There but by the grace of God go I" . May god hold and protect your family. You gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep evil at bay. This job takes so much, and gives so little, thank god for those, including yourself, who give their all for a world that often has no understanding of what we face. God be with your family at this time o tragic loss.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Officer Christopher Kelley, sir, it is with honor that I tribute you with my sincere sympathy in your loss to your family, agency, and many friends, as well as Fellow Brothers and Sisters in blue. I know you have finished your watch, but brother, I also know that one day when God extends to me: Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant, we'll unite again in the satin pillars of the Sky. Thank you for your endless unselfish sacrifice during your service to the great state of Texas!

Respectfully,
Michael Rayford Powell.

We Salute Our Fallen Brother

For I’m already being poured out like a drink offering,
And the time has come for my departure; I have fought
The good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Now there is in store for me a crown of righteousness…2 Timothy 4:6-8.

The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will
Of God lives forever…1 John 2:17

Today we stand to salute our brothers’ departure from here
He’ll leave behind a family and those who hold him dear
In a career he served where all give some, yet he gave his all
He leaves this earth behind as he received his final call

The risks he faced on this final tour was one of a unique kind
His bravery surpassed his courage at last he leaves a world behind
Everyday he’ll be remembered for all the special things he did
He patrolled the streets as Gods chosen servant to him goodbye we bid

Don’t worry our brother in blue you’ll always be a part of our mind
We’ll always recall the bright face you bore one that’s so very kind
The hours you spent making a difference protecting all mankind
You stood your watch and kept the faith of one so hard to find

We Salute Our Fallen Brother for the impeccable job he done
You walked tall on duty with integrity second to no one
The beat you worked was like a battlefield in a society filled with change
Yet you never wavered in your commitment to a job that somehow was strange

The flag of our nation will not fly at half mast across the entire USA
But trust us dear brother with taped badges we honor you this way
A symbol of a fallen brother that graced our presence everyday
We’ll always salute the job you performed before you went away!

And Now We Say Goodbye

Great sadness fills our hearts today
as pipes and drums, in slow march play.
A comrade’s fallen by the way,
And now we say goodbye.

This hero to the very end
Was more than just a casual friend,
Who would a stranger’s life defend,
And now we say goodbye

But we shall cherish, all our days,
The character this life portrayed
With sacrifice so freely made,
And now we say goodbye.

The hand salute, o’er Stars and Stripes,
And distant skirl of highland pipes,
Give last farewell with hero’s rights,
And now we say goodbye.

While here on Earth, you gave your best.
Now in the Master’s arms you rest.
T’is by your memory we are blessed.
And now we say goodbye.
