Completely unbelievable and very clear that our peace officer duties can take a toll on us even when it is a low level crime. Every call we go on can have a lasting effect and this shows it. I have had the great fortune to know Officer Rick Silva and working with him from the time he was at Lewis County SO and Chehalis police department. Officer Silva had updated our EVOC training just a couple weeks before this unthinkable passing. I remember him riding in my patrol car showing me the course he had set up for us to re-certify on. I was very fortunate to have several laughs with him and other officers over our department having HEMI chargers and his department having newer charges but just a V-6. Not knowing this was our last time to laugh together makes it special and sad. Thank you for your service, your hummer, your infectious smile and laugh....To know you has been my privilege to call you friend and college. RIP Chehalis #117

Shock, sadness and disbelief all can't begin to describe our emotions to this news. Rick was a stellar officer and it is an honor to call him my Brother in Blue. Our careers spanned much of the same time frame in neighboring cities and our paths crossed often. Cindy and kids, we are so very sorry for you loss, and the loss to the Chehalis PD and to Lewis County as a whole. Truly a good man gone too soon. Rest peacefully Brother, your tour is done, we got it from here.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
