"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

"The thing about being a cop, is every cop knows what it is like to be a civilian. But unless you are a cop, you can't know what it's like. That doesn't make us better than you, but it does help the good officers appreciate what they are protecting.

Whether people like us or not, we are going to keep doing it even if it costs us our lives.

And Sometimes it does."

Rest in Peace, Sister.

To the Families of Detective Orozco both Police and personal, I wanted to send my sincerest condolences to you all during this most difficult time. There is no true understanding when something like this happens. She touched so many people, those she knew well and those like me who she never met. She and I are part of a small group of people who had children who spent a good deal of time in the NICU.
It makes me sad that her daughter will never know her mothers arms, or listen to a gentle lullaby of comfort. Please remember to use your memories and wrap them around you, so that they feel like a hug from above.
When you are feeling down, just look into the babies eyes and you will see a piece of Kerrie looking back at you. You are blessed to have family and many friends that you don't know of just yet. ((HUGS))

I wish her loved ones may find some way to accept that Detective Orozco, paid the ultimate price whicle performing a part in society that I am sure she believed in and loved. I wish all her brother and sister officers take a moment sometime soon. Take a deep look inside one's self and make sure they can move on, or have someone assist them to live on with head raised high.

Kerrie, it's been hard standing here where you fell containing my emotions. It wasn't that long ago that I saw you down in the gym at Central and I waved as I walked by. I wish I knew then what I know now. You gave everything you had so that others might live. We will now close ranks around your family and keep watch on them. Rest easy sister.
