It is often a forgotten fact that many communities, including here in Clare, that Volunteer "Reserve" officers put their life on the line side by side with the regular Officers every day. Their contribution to our communities is invaluable.

God's servant, a faithful husband, a model dad, a loyal patriot, a committed believer! The description of Sonny Smith seems to be unending as shared by his fellow deputies, family, and community. His gallant sacrifice against the evil that has been unleashed in our nation against those in authority (Romans 13:1-5) shall be forever implanted in our hearts. Our prayer is for God's sustaining to be with his dear wife and wonderful children. Deputy Smith,

You served your country in the US Navy, and volunteered to serve your community as a Reserve Deputy. You did not back away from duty when called, and located a dangerous criminal. Unfortunately, you made the ultimate sacrifice in carrying out your duties, but it is sheepdogs like you that keep the wolves at bay. Thank you sir, and rest easy knowing that your legacy lives on in future generations of sheepdogs. My prayers to your family, and to the Johnson County SO family.

We few.....We happy few.....We band of Brothers......
For He today.....Whom sheds his blood with me......
Shall be.....My Brother......
Lest Ye say it proudly......We are but warriors for the working day." Shakespear

May God extend his most precious blessings upon you and your family....As you begin your new assignment on those golden streets...my comfort is sustained in the knowledge that I WILL see and meet you there one day.....
