Reflections for Sergeant Thomas J. Fonte
Big Tom as I called him was like a brother to me when I was a little runt. He lived with us a lot of the time and really doted on me. Taught me how to shoot a basket when I was 5. He was always affectionate and loving to my mom and family. Everyone loved him and I think of him a lot. My dad said we were very much alike as kids. Where did the time go my cousin. You were my hero. Until we meet again. Rest. Look over us. ❤️

I never got to meet him, but my dad told me he was the best. When I found out what he looked like, I immediately said he looked like my dad, despite the age difference. Rest in peace

Your heroism took place in the Firestone area, Sgt.
Fonte. You made the world better for several people along with your partner, by going into the hazardous area and leading them to safety. Unfortunately the sacrifice was your pain and suffering and ultimately your life. Thank you for your service. You will not be forgotten. RIP.

I am honored and proud to have found the unrecognized story of Thomas Fonte and after doing research into the incidents surrounding his 1978 injuries and his 1990 death, submitting it the Sheriff's Memorial Committee and having it approved. I found his grave at Forest Lawn and have decorated it with flowers and an American flag.

I had the pleasure of working with you one night in October of 1979 in 45D PM's as a Cadet in the Academy. I learned a hell of a lot that day and also earned your respect which was a very hard thing for cadet. I always wanted to thank you for your evaluation of my performance. I never knew what happened to you until today which is the beginning of my 38th year on the Department. You are not forgotten.

My little Sister and I were very young when you were taken from us. You would be very proud of the beautiful woman she has become.
Although losing you shattered my young world, I knew you couldn't stay and that God needed you to come home.
God sent us another dad, and he did very well. He made us his own and continued where you left off. Although we love him and call him dad, we haven't forgotten or stopped loving you.
I am happy to see you get the recognition you deserve for your sacrifice.
Love you dad.

You shall live in the hearts of those who loved you, those who admired you, and those you helped in their times of need; thus you will never be forgotten.
Most respectfully Sergeant Fonte, although I never knew you, I dedicate this day to your memory.
