I am so sorry for your loss. I am the mother of a Denver Police officer, in Denver, Colorado. My son graduated from the Denver Police Academy in 2001, 10 days after 9/11. You are all in my prayers, and I want to thank each and every officer of the San Jose Police Department...for putting your lives on the line every day to serve and protect your city! Only the finest shall serve! My condolences also to Michael's mother and all of his family members..I am so sorry for your loss. From one police officer's mother to another police officer's mother, across the miles, thankyou for your precious son's service and sacrifice.

I made a promise 18 years ago when my friend, Officer Mark Stall, was killed in the line of duty in Boise, Idaho. Each year I take 8th grade students to Washington D.C. I promised after Mark's death that from then on, I would take every group to the National Law Enforcement Memorial and tell them Mark's story. I have done that now for 18 years. I read for them the transcript of the radio traffic of the shooting that ended Mark's life. Then I read Thomas Jefferson's quote that begins, "there are two enemies of the people, criminals and the government...." I tell them that the Constitution is designed to protect the people from the government while police officers protect us from criminals. I plead with them to grow up to respect law enforcement officers and to raise their children to do the same. I will now take them to your name and tell them your story. A grateful father, a grateful family, a grateful city thanks you sir for your courage and your sacrifice.

Mike,
I didn't have the opportunity to get to know you as well as I would've liked. But what I saw from the handful of times we met was a good man, a man with a strong sense of honor and a desire to serve and protect. I will remember you for your sense of humor, your ability to take things in stride and project an aura of calmness, and the love that you and Nikki so strongly shared. I'm incredibly proud that you were my cousin, even for a very short period of time.

You've done a job that most will never fully understand or appreciate and which no community can do without. Thank you very much for both your service and the contributions you and your family made on behalf of the public you barely knew, but chose to protect anyway. Your choice and efforts did not go unnoticed. Condolences to your family.

On behalf of the Westerville, Ohio Division of Police, our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of Police Officer Michael Johnson and the extended law enforcement family San Jose, California Police Department. Rest in Peace brother and watch over us.
I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.
