Reflections for Deputy U.S. Marshal Josie Lamar Wells

It was too early for you to receive your angel wings.

For Deputy US Marshall Jose Wells:

Our job in law-enforcement is one of high risk. No risk is greater than the assignment to serve a felony warrant of arrest. Many are just as dangerous. We regret that our brother Josie would be the next law-officer to fall in the line of duty.
We pray for Josie's family, co-workers, friends, and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one other in the days ahead. We are forever grateful to al those who assisted him at the scene and brought order into their midst.
We are proud to render Deputy US Marshall Josie Wells, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

God Bless this family during this tragic time. I have always thought of the USMS as giants in the Law Enforcement field and giants never fall, they just rest in the bosom of Christ. They are unique, elite and mystical at times. I once attempted to join them but stood back and said, "maybe later". Later never came, so I'm grateful to those who chose to move forward with their dream of becoming a USM. Deputy Josie Wells, thank you for perservering and being someone we can all be proud of. I know the USMS team will tell stories to your child about what a mighty warrior you were. You will never be forgotten. We will uphold your family in prayer forever. One final salute. Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle;
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray:
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
