Reflections for Deputy U.S. Marshal Josie Lamar Wells

I am not in law enforcement. However I was reading about the U S Deputy Marshal, Bass Reeves, and Google brought up this page. Today happens to be March 10, 2024, so there are no coincidences in life. I extend my heartfelt condolences to your family and I thank you for your service to our country. May you continue to rest in paradise.

Deputy Marshal Wells,

Your death especially touches me, because you left behind a baby who was not yet born at the time of your passing. My own wife was such a child. She was born after her dad was a U S Forest Service Ranger. He died fighting a forest fire set by an arsonist, weeks before his daughter (my wife) was born. Today, your child would be about 8. I don't know who he or she may be, but I will add this child and mom and your wife to my daily prayers. Rest in peace.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

Thought about your smiling face today.

Everyone Goes Home

Define your champions, and seek what you lack. Mine enter dark places, and oft don’t come back. For those that return they long for the day. To push it again, let come what may.

Our time here is short, even if you grow old. Stand strong like a warrior, grow wise, be bold. As years run at you with zero delay, smile at the shadows, crash into the fray. To those yet to be, take note of those gone. When our work here is done, we all go home.

So sad, like all of these "end of watch" incidents. Sounds like a fine man from a long standing cop family. He, and his family will be in my prayers.

Such a tragedy. He was grinning in our office as an eager young intern student. Then he went to our academy to earn his badge and flashed that trademark smile as he showed it to us. He left for his first duty station for a few years before returning home to begin his family as he worked with us. Then he went to help with a fugitive operation in a neighboring state and was taken.
This is what we do, but the price is terribly high.
We miss Josie.
Some wounds never seem to heal.
But there is comfort in knowing that his faith was so strong - the pillar of his central character.

I am so sorry for this loss.
I worked with the USMS in Seattle and I know the bond that is made with all of the deputies.
