An Officer’s Heart
By Kathy Farace

I chose to work in law enforcement;
It’s my duty and my call.
I will serve no matter what the risk
In a crisis great or small.

Protecting life and liberties
From jeopardy and from theat.
No matter what the time or cause,
I’ll respond with no regret

The thin blue line of courage is a symbol that reflects,
The depth of strength to conquer,
Fear our commitment and respect.

Duty calls, the race begins, days end is unbeknown.
Though focused on the work at hand
My heart is back at home.

As an officer I know I’m not in this alone.
You stand with me by my side and pray my safety home.

I give you this special gift a heart for us to share;
Holding precious words of love far days so hard to bear.

Every moment of every day, in my heart you’ll always be.
We’ll never be far apart……You have “A Piece of Me”

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

To the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Green. We will keep you in our prayers. There are times that we pray because nothing else is worth saying, and no one but God can do anything. This is one of those moments. So we will keep you in our prayers and ask God to make something redemptive, something good in response to this senseless tragedy.

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for over three years. Feel those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.

T.G. I don't even know how to start this. First, thank you for your selfless service and dedication to the citizens of Fulton County and your coworkers. You did have this way of popping up just in the nick time. And I know if I could ask you if you remember an accident I was working on Highway 138 and Peters Road, you would laugh and tell me you don't. I was maybe 4 to 5 days out of our FTO program and still trying to get a hang of this police thing. It was right of 1900 hours, rush hour was coming to an end, and it was on a highway, involving 3 cars and 1 truck. I didn't know my left from my right. I was in need of someone to work traffic while I was investigating the traffic accident, but it was shift change and there were no units available to assist me. This black Dodge Charger pulled up and you jumped out. You had just left an extra job and you were off from work. You popped your trunk, put on your traffic vest and said, "Where you need me at?" I asked you if you were off-duty and you told me you were off. I told you to go ahead and code 1 and I’ll manage. You laughed at me, walked away and started directing traffic for about 45 minutes. The veteran of 20 + years , off-duty, wearing gym pants and a t-shirt and driving your POV. What you did that afternoon showed me what kind of man you were and what kind of officer I should strive to become. So to you T.G., thank you! Watch over us from the heavens above as you did on the streets. You are and will forever be missed my brother!

To any of his family and friends: There isn't much I can say to convey how despondent things like this make me feel. I hope that you can find some comfort in the support that others are providing. We are with you in thought even though most of us cannot physically be there for you. Thank you for supporting him in his life outside of his job for 22 years. It is always our family and friends that keep us going.

May he rest in peace, and may you find your own.
