Officer Murkerson thank you for your service, although I never knew you and you were killed in this traffic accident some two months before I was born, I did know your widow Ms. Mavis Murkerson who later became deputy sheriff under Sheriff Shorty Phllips in Decatur, County. I knew your daughter Gay Murkerson and your two sons Jerry Murkerson and Al Murkerson. I became an officer with the Bainbridge Police Department in 1972 and served there until 2012. I was honored to know your widow Ms. Mavis Murkerson who later remarried Norwood Williams and they had a daughter June Williams who was like a sister to me. I knew the Norwood and Mavis Williams family through Calvary Baptist Church where we were all members back in the day. Ms. Williams still is a member and is one of the finest ladies you will ever meet. .

We cannot fully honor our heroes of the present without honoring our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 62nd anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. We shall never forget any of our heroes.
Rest In Peace.
