Reflections for Trooper Nicholas Glenn Dees

Went to the police academy with Nick. Was very heartbroken about his passing. He always inspired us all and will continue to do so.

To the family of Trooper Dees:
I saw the dedication in honor of Trooper Dees when watching the song Sound of Silence.

I am a retired highway patrol officer who had a partner killed in the line of duty from an accident and I was at the scene of an allied agency officer who was shot and killed. These are horrific events that we never forget.

It is a privilege to serve in law enforcement knowing the risks and making a commitment to serve and protect despite the risks. May I offer my belated condolences to you, Trooper Dees' family, and to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
May the Lord continue to give you peace and comfort as you remember your hero.

Officer Jim Dowling
California Highway Patrol (Ret)

John 14: 1-4 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go y e know, and the way ye know.

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

Hey Nickeldoo it's mama here just letting you know I am struggling so much without you. It has been over 3 years now. We are coming up on Easter and I found the video of the Easter play in 2012 where you played Jesus. I put it on your Facebook page to let everyone see what an awesome Jesus you made. I know you are now up in heaven with him and are happy, whole and full of joy. I miss those bright eyes, those dimples and that positive personality. Nickeldoo I am trying my best to do what you always told me, "Pray more, Read the Bible and Worry Less" and I can still hear you tell me, "It'll Be Alright Mom". I love you my son and my hero and I am looking forward to the day when I can see you again.

R.I.P. Nicholas, I was honored to meet your amazing mother and hear great things about you, I'm sure you were a amazing person and a great officer. Anytime I do anything involved with preparing for my future career in law enforcement I think about u, I look down at my wrist and see OHPDELTA731 and it inspires me to do my best, because it is you who inspired me to pursue this career and it's you that gives me my motivation to continue to pursue my goal. Thank you for your service and hopefully some day I can finally meet you and thank you for all you've done.

My name is Shelley Russell, Nicholas was my only child and I am so lost without him. He was killed while working an accident by a man who had texted 189 times. He left Arkansas and for 2 and a half hours with no regard to any life even his 4 month old baby in the back seat, after 188 texts with no problem, on the 189 one he killed my son. My life has changed for ever. I am lost, broken, angry and some days it hurts to even breath. However, through all of this and with lots of prayers I wanted to turn this tragedy into a positive so I am going to schools and showing a very powerful power point presentation called "My Son Gone in Seconds". I want to keep his legacy alive and strong because he paid the ultimate sacrifice while standing on that Thin Blue Line protecting the citizens of Oklahoma. Because of him we are know the 46th state to have a law against Texting and Driving. I am hoping to save a mom from going through this gut wrenching pain I go through every day and if I can do that then I know Nicholas' death was not in vain. I am an avid runner so I had the Inaugural Trooper Nicholas Dees Memorial Run on January 23, 2016, which was his birthday he would have been 31. We had a 5K, a Nickeldoo Dash for the kids (that is what I called him even as an adult) and a Run the Badge 7.31 miles (his badge was Delta 731), and I had a virtual run for people who could not make it to Durant, Oklahoma. With the run here in Durant and with the virtual runners every state was represented, we had two from Canada, one from United Kingdom and one from Greece. So Nicholas' story has gone national. We raised enough money we gave a $2000.00 scholarship for a student majoring in Criminal Justice. During the year I have also had other fundraiser items like t-shirts, car decals, wristbands. an Angel Visor clip and am currently working on a Challenge Coin. His memorial run will be on the 4th Saturday every January. I would love for everyone to meet and know my son. He was a Christian man and impacted so many lives all you have to do is go to his Facebook page and follow us on this journey to keep his legacy alive. Please go to OHP Trooper Nicholas Dees Delta 731 on Facebook and Like. Please keep me in your prayers to be able to continue this bitter sweet journey. AND PLEASE- ARRIVE ALIVE DON'T TEXT AND DRIVE. RIP MY SON AND MY HERO TROOPER NICHOLAS DEES DELTA 731 I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU SO MUCH

I may not have known him very well, but is constantly in my mind. I wish I would have known him but all I can do is just acknowledge who he was as a individual. Studying as a criminal justice major at UT Tyler I wish I had known him beings he was my cousin. I hope to fill the shoes he left behind.

My heart still aches for the Dees family. My son, Trooper#730 was commissioned with the same academy. It is a special calling to be in law enforcement. As a parent, it is sometimes a hard pill to swallow, It is a thought you cant get out of your mind, there are a lot of undesirable situations out there... but you have to move on...sometimes, the most important training is at the expense of the fallen..God bless and Godspeed.

Rest in peace my brother. Although your service was short, you made a lasting impact on all of us who worked with you here in Seminole and Hughes Counties. You will not be forgotten. Your wife and children are strong and doing well but no doubt they miss you as we all do. See you on the other side sir.

Revelation 21:3,4 "he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away". For all of Trooper's Dees family and friends, may you find comfort in the words of our loving heavenly father. The time in which these sort of tragedies will soon come to an end, and we can be reunited with those who have fallen asleep in death.
