A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

Since Trooper Zimmerman's passing 11 years ago, I have had the honor and privilege of becoming friends with many survivors. Through them, I get to know of their loved ones who died in the line of duty. Scott is the first person I have known before his death, and to say to have known him was a privilege and a blessing is an understatement. I have known Scott nearly my entire life and it saddens me beyond words to see his picture and name on this page (although truly deserved). He was one of the kindest, most generous and loving people I have ever known. He would drop anything in a moment's notice to do anything for anyone, whether friend or stranger. Thus, it was no surprise that he chose a career serving his community. Scott has touched the lives of countless people and the void left by his loss will never be filled. To many Scott is now a hero because he died while serving his community. To others, he is a hero because he gave the gift of life through organ donation. But to those of us who knew him, particularly is family and son, Scott was and will continue to be a hero because of how he lived his life.
