I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
Abraham Lincoln

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Christopher was killed.
To the Davis family, fellow correctional officers, and all who call Christopher beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Correctional Officer Christopher Davis gave to his community and the citizens of Texas, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on January 14, 2015

I am sorry for the loss of these 2 great men who in there time in law enforcement did just that...enforced the law and protected us from those who would want to harm us. They also put their lives on the line for even inmates who did wrong in their lives but were human beings and they saw them as such. We should all mourn such a loss to this state and especially to their families. A great sorrow and I am so sorry for your loss.
