Rest in peace.

Jamal, I still remember the first day you started the FTO program. We discussed police work and what you wanted to do. We worked hard to get there. I remember being hard on you with regards to report writing. I watched you grow as an officer. I recall the first report you got through me without needing correction, I drew a smiling face in highlighter on the report. We ran into each other at the gas pumps about a year later and talked for a minute. You thanked me for being hard on you and pulled out that report from your visor. I remember feeling the pride of a father when his son finally gets it. Thank you Jamal. You were an excellent officer but a better person! You are missed. Rest easy brother!

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

Its taken me this long, to come see this...Its still hard to believe this is real. This is my brother and there are no words to explain how I feel...but its weird, because I'm so proud at the same time, proud that he will be honored and remembered forever....
~Rest easy brother...I'll take care of everything here

I truly miss you. I miss your laughter. I miss your sarcastic comments. I miss your hugs. I miss helping to pack your "lunch box" after a big party. I miss my brother. You were always there for me; even when you didn't have to be. As this week approaches, I still can not believe your name is etched into that wall. No matter how much time passes, I am still in denial thinking you are a phone call away. I love and miss you.

As police week approaches and we all are packing for the week long events, its still not real that you are the HERO we are celebrating. I just want to call you and see where you are tonight because I'm bored at work. I see and hear you everyday and still cant believe your not here. The cook outs are not the same without you coming by to get a hot dog to go. Halloween wont be the same with out you flashing your lights and slowing cars down on our street so the kids are safe. Its bittersweet in a way that you are still working your majic. We have gained some great new members to the family in your friends and co-workers. They sure love you!! The blue lights shine in the windows everynight in honor of you and support of your brother and all your brothers and sisters in blue. Miss you much and trust and believe we are all stepping up to fill your shoes..

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Jamel was killed.
To the Clagett family, fellow deputies, and all who call Jamel beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned with you.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Patrolman Clagett gave to his community and the citizens of Maryland, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on December 21, 2014
