Reflections for Police Officer Charles Roger Kondek, Jr
My friend deputy Joe Alva was killed on Christmas Eve in 1992. My heart goes out to Officer Kondek's wife and children. God Bless him and his family. I hope the family will be able to remember all the great times they had with their father and husband. He was a hero.

We recognize a true hero in Mr. Kondek! With heavy hearts we collectively grieve. Our Sovereign Lord can still wring good out of evil by galvanizing our collective spirits into addressing the incivility we each face day after day. We rise up together lifting up Mr. Kondek's family in prayer and recognizing Mr. Kondek as our hero, brother and friend. To Mr. Kondek: Good Night dear friend, may the flight of angels take thee to thine eternal rest comforted in the very Hallow of God's own hands.

Charles was my godson. We haven't seen each other in a long time...but my heart is broken. Why did this have to happen! His father's heart is broken. The sorrow the family is experiencing is unbelievable! Evil walks among us and it is human! May Charles' wife and children find peace in the good memory of him.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Officer Kondek, although I never had the pleasure of meeting you, I know many of your Tarpon Springs P.D brothers and sisters. When I woke up Sunday morning and heard that one of my Tarpon Brothers fell, I began to cry. This act of cowardice is what we all face every time we go out there to do our jobs. Words can't express the sorrow I feel for all my brothers and sisters in uniform.
