On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Bart was killed.

To the Hart family, fellow deputies, and all who call Bart beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Deputy Hart gave to his community and the citizens of Alabama, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on November 23, 2014.

Though you had earned the right to sit back and relax after years of protecting and saving others as a Firefighter, you chose to serve more. You are a hero. Though you have left them physically, I know you will be with those who know and love you best, forever.

God Bless and may you forever, Rest in Peace, Brother.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

On behalf of the Westerville, Ohio Division of Police, our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of Deputy Sheriff Bart Hart and the extended law enforcement family of the Elmore County, Alabama Sheriff's Office. Rest in Peace brother and watch over us.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

Mr. Hart, I don't really know what to say. All I can think of is sitting at the fuel pumps with you and Sarge O when that hard rain came in. Both of us being former firemen we were wondering what was wrong with us going in to law enforcement and laughing about the incident at the the casino. Even then you were compassionate and felt bad for the guy. That's the kind of person you were. I remember the next night on my way to work thinking about how I cussed and carried on, thinking How I wished I could have the character you had, only to have your dispatch ask for assistance a couple hours later on your fatal accident. Mr. Hart, I will follow your lead and strive to be a better person and officer. To Cav, Barnett, Sgt. O and all of the other Deputies that responded to the scene, I am truly sorry for the situation you had to endure. RIP Deputy Bart Hart.
