God, filled with mercy, dwelling in the heavens' heights,
bring proper rest beneath the wings of your Lord,
amid the ranks of the holy and the pure,
illuminating like the brilliance of the skies the soul of Jeffrey Greene who went to his eternal place of rest.
May You who are the source of mercy shelter him beneath Your wings eternally, and bind his soul among the living, that he may rest in peace. And let us say: Amen

Sitting here and typing this doesn't seem real but it's something I have to do. Just the day before, we sat in a room conducting an interview together. After that, we all went to lunch together, just like usual. At the end of the day, I told you I'd be in late because I had to get my car worked on and we both said, "See you tomorrow!" In the weeks before, we worked to bring Wayne's poker run to life. In all of these things, as well as many others, your love for your friends, your community and your country shined as bright as the sun. The leadership you showed in every aspect of your life should be an example for everyone to follow. Capt. Whitaker summed you up the best with one word: PASSIONATE! That's what you were about your family, your service to the community and your friends and co-workers. There is an emptiness now that can never be filled, just dealt with as best as possible each day to try and feel a little better. You always gave wise counsel about many things and stood up for your beliefs and what you thought was right, no matter whose feelings that hurt or whose toes you stepped on...what was right was what mattered. You set high standards and those of us still here need to carry on with those. Your family still here has a second family, 280+ strong, and a community of brothers and sisters in all different colors and types of uniforms to help pull them through and lift them up. Don't worry about them...we got this. Now go rev up that Harley...you've got some riding to catch up on!

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
