Can’t believe it’s been 5 years Dave. Still remember you like it was yesterday on patrol teams together working graveyards and then you making it to the DUI squad. Your memorial sign in the motor office still hangs with pride. All of us have been blessed to have worked with you and your tenacity was second to none for DUI enforcement.
I still ride by Chandler & Pennington and think about that night. I can only hope I am carrying on the motor tradition as well as you did Dave. God bless you and your family on this 5 year anniversary.

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

I think about you often and I still cry. Even though, we lost contact over the years, I would somehow, someway find out how you were doing. I was very happy for you that your dream of being a Police officer had come true. It so saddens me that your life was taken away from you so early. My thoughts and prayers still go out to your family, especially your daughter and your son. I am sure that they will grow up knowing what a hero their Father was. My condolences to the Chandler Police Department. RIP Officer Payne. You will never be forgotten my friend

Nights just aren't the same without you out there with us. I hear the other traffic units on the radio, but I don't hear you. I drive by the crash scene almost every shift and I remember that night and how helpless I felt.
You were a warrior, a hunter, and a good cop. I carry with me the knowledge you passed on and the drive to keep drunks off our streets.
I will push on, I will never forget.
