Edward was my mother's uncle. They named a street after him, and the family story is that he was the first West Orange police officer to die on duty. Edward's parents came over at age 4 and 5 during The Irish Famine--Pat to Orange, Fannie to Baltimore. Pat became a hatter and was able to buy a double-lot home in Orange, then died at age 40, leaving his wife Fannie to raise Edward and his 7 surviving siblings. Edward married and raised his family on "Nanny Goat Hill", Prospect Place, in West Orange. Everyone loved and admired him.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 85th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

God didn’t promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain; but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears and light for the way.
