I have laid down my life in service to all of you.
I have been a part of the fabric that has held the line between your safety and your victimization. I have given my life so that others may live in peace. I have lived my life as a dedicated member of the greatest profession. There is no greater honor.

As I now become a part of the rich history of law enforcement, please remember me always for I have left behind those who loved and depended upon me.
My partners and my agency, please remember my family, their loss, and don’t let time soften your compassion for them.

You guard the gate now and I will continue my watch from above.

MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND MAY YOUR FAMILY FIND COMFORT IN THE GOOD YOU HAVE DONE HERE ON EARTH.

Michael David Davis, Jr. is my cousin, Joan Davis's son. She not only lost a grandson but a son in the line of duty. My heart goes out the Michael's family and to his Grandmother. His family has been through such a tragic loss. My prayers are with them. I'm sending my condolences from a relative on the Wallace side. No family should have to go what they are going through. I am also sad for the loss of Danny Oliver who also lost his life. It is my hope that justice is served for these two senseless deaths

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

A Part of America Died

Somebody killed a policeman today
And a part of America died…
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he had gone off to war;
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast
To his name they will add a gold star.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long, lonely nights.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today…
Maybe in your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side;
He answered the call… of himself gave his all,
And a part of America died…

To Michael's family, fellow deputies, and all who call Michael beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

I mourn the loss of every fallen officer, but when I heard about your murder and Deputy Oliver's murder, it affected me profoundly. I was at a 4H Camp in Arkansas to participate in the annual Parents Retreat for our nation's parents of fallen officers. We had a minute of silence and prayers for our two Northern California deputies, and were all devastated to learn that your family has borne this unspeakable tragedy before. Our hearts were very heavy with grief.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Investigator Davis gave to his community and the citizens of California , and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 24, 2014.
