Officer Patrick,
Your willingness to stop out with us while we are on a call in your city and even let us use your equipment when ours wasn't working will always be remembered. It was always refreshing to see you coming our way with your big smile and positive attitude. It was very clear you cared deeply about your city and about the other officers that surrounded your city. Whether it was to stop and say hi or stop to help, you will truly be missed.

Although I do not put the uniform on anymore, I still put the badge and gun on everyday and every time I do I think about my brothers and sisters that do the same. I think about their families and friends, their partners and the people they go out everyday to protect and serve. We all know that each day could be our last on this earth so each day we strive to do the best we can to make a difference in the peoples lives we touch. To make our communities a safer place and to help they people that so need our help. We are never called when people are having a good day, usually it is when they are having their worst. We must be calm and supportive because we are just not cops, but EMT's, Social Workers, Counselors, Parents, and sometimes even friends or at least a supportive and empathic person to talk to.
While doing this we must also determine if a crime was committed, If an arrest can or should be made, if a citation or warning should be issued, what services can be provided, how to try and save a life and most of all to be as professional as we can be. This is why we are Police Officers and this is why we choose this profession to help people and to make a difference no matter how big or small.
While Officer Patrick can on longer do this he did this everyday and for that he should be loved and remember, he is and will always be a hero. To Officer Patrick's family he will be missed by law enforcement in Minnesota, his sacrifice will never be forgotten, and you will never be forgotten we love you, I love you and that will never change. Thank you Officer Patrick for your service to the citizen of Mendota Heights, Dakota County and the State Of Minnesota. Thank Officer Patrick's family for sharing him with all of us.... he will truly be missed.
Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of god. Matthew 5:9

Our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Scott Patrick. Mendota Heights is where I grew up - such a beautiful community and never could I imagine losing one of our law enforcement members. Now another family is suffering the same horrible loss that my family did just 4 years ago. Officer Patrick, thank you for your service and know that you will never be forgotten and your family will be taken care of. God Bless you sir.

There are no words that will comfort the family in blue at this time except to see that we stand strong and are ALWAYS THERE FOR EACH OTHER, in good and bad times. For his wife and daughters, I feel confident, nineteen years of doing what he loved, gives you some come comfort, knowing that, he put his uniform on and went to work everyday, in a thankless job I might add, bc, 1, he loved it. And 2, he knew he made a difference, just like you's knew and his family of blue knew. He is a role model to all.

The Thin Blue Line
There is a line the color of the sky
on a clear afternoon There is a line
the hue of the ocean on a bright sunny day
There is a line the purest shade of a newborn's eyes
awakening for the first time There is a line
that protects us from harm in all we do
whether day or night There is a line
no one can penetrate no one can alleviate
There is a line made of those who choose
to follow a calling many do not hear and still more do not comprehend
They choose to walk the path of fear, hate, and mistrust
taken by so few but marked by so many
And when one leaves this line they leave a legacy
but the line does not break for the remaining must still protect
There may be emptiness a loss, or sadness
but never a hole not in this line
This line that holds the ghosts of the souls who have gone
and the souls of the ghosts who will be The Thin Blue Line
