Officer Melvin Santiago,

Be it known that while your death was senseless and untimely, you achieved and contributed more to society in your short life than most will earn in a lifetime. You are more than us. You are the best of us.

You are to be only admired, loved and remembered for your service and sacrifice.

You will be. That is our resolution ... to you and those like you in that long, thin blue line, past and present.

May you rest in heavenly peace with the Lord. Though your time here on Earth was but a moment, you will live for an eternity in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved you. My heart aches for you and your loved ones and, though incomprehensible, your work here was done and it was time to return to the Creator. "Welcome home my child."

Melvin I never knew you brother in this life but from what I read here you were the epitome of a Human being. I was a Military Policeman for 4 years and I too wish to be in law enforcement one day as a civilian. Your courage sets the example for me and I think for all. I pray for you and your family and hold you and them in my heart
