Deeply sorrowful, I leave a reflection about another brave soldier killed by a cowardly enemy. I hope the community will show appreciation for the sacrifice Officer Renn
has made, and outrage for this violent attack. To the citizens in this community, I ask that you do your civic duty and punish this ruthless criminal for the brutal murder of this good man and US Army Veteran. With swift justice, sentence this murderer to the most severe penalty. Officer Renn, may the memory of your heroism, service and sacrifice remain forever. May God bless you, your family and fellow officers in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

A572, yesterday we laid you to rest in a beautiful ceremony that I was honored to be a witness to. As a 911 dispatcher the worst thing in the world we can hear is "officer down". While we don't brave the streets, we have to listen to our brothers and sisters call out that someone is down. In dispatch everything goes quiet and a tear forms as we fear the worst. Prayers are said and we struggle because it's our job to assist you and now we cannot help. We continue to take calls, send more officers into danger, help other officers with requests, and pray the entire time that a miracle will happen. Some of us feel guilt for dispatching you on a run where you were injured or killed. We don't know your faces but we know your names, your unit numbers, your voices and many personalities. We hold a love, respect, and care for the officers that we work with and all officers.

A572, it was an honor to have worked with you and to be one of your dispatchers. I will miss your voice and personality that came through on the radio. May God bless you and your family.

Thank you Officer Renn for your service and sacrifice. For 22 years you patrolled the streets of Indy with courage and compassion. Every day when you put on your uniform, you put your life on the line to protect us. The citizens of Indianapolis are grateful for everything you did to help keep us safe.

For Officer Renn's family and friends - no words can take away the sense of loss you must feel. May you find peace and comfort knowing that he was an example to his community and that through his selfless service, he changed lives. Thank you for sharing him with the community.

For his brothers and sisters of IMPD - stay strong in your resolve to fight the good fight. The community stands with you in your fight to take back the streets and make this city what we all know it can be.

Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers

Officer Perry Renn was marked out of service at 3pm today, yet in his families heart and his Police Family, he will never be. Our hearts are heavy, yet we know that The Lord said "well done my son, it's time to come home." Officer Renn will surely be missed, but just remember all the good he did, with his, wife, mother, sister and the Community he served. He was never off duty and as he is laid to rest today, know that he is still on duty, by watching over us all.
May The Lord keep his loving arms around you, give you strength, warmth and comfort in knowing that he's okay. In Jesus's name we pray. Amen
