I'm his son not a day goes by that I do not miss my father when he died it broke my heart. To this day I ask myself why they did it. I was at my Aunt's house when this happened I was supposed to be with my father but I had a baseball game that day. If I would have woken up 5 minutes earlier I would have watched my dad...you know.

Deputy Bares was a great officer and friend to us all at VPSO. I had only the brief pleasure of being his trainee for a day while in FTO. He showed me a lot in that short time. There was no kinder man nor more diligent officer than he. I will never forget him as his EOW fell exactly on my birthday that day in 2014. Not a day goes by I do not miss him or wish he was still with us.

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

Im so sorry to hear about Deputy Bares loosing his life. I lived in Abbeville while waiting for my academy class to start for the Houston Police Department. That was August 1966. Ive since retired in 2000 as a Detective and still have family and friends in Abbeville. I mention this because Deputy Bares will be remembered not only locally but also by friends throughout the country. may he rest in peace
