Although the officers involved were responding to the aid of a third officer....it is extremely said that the may have lost sight of the immediate dangers in getting there. Slow down, serve a long career, and live long. May God watch over this dedicated officer and bring peace to his family.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Scott died.
To the Hewell family, fellow Stockton officers, and all who call Scott beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Hewell gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on June 11, 2014.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Stockton Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

Thought of you tonight while I was out on patrol. One memory in particular. Every time I would show up in the lockeroom 20 minutes till roll call, worrying about being late. You would show up 10 till, sometimes even 7 till. You would always say something funny like, "WHEW, Still early!" Thank you for the great laughs, filling with me on calls, and just being you.
It was an absolute honor to work beside you, and a privilege to have your friendship. I love you brother. You will never be forgotten.
