I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

For Officer Michael Petrina:

Our duty as law-officers on patrol takes us onto one of the deadliest battlefields of all - a US highway. The toll in injuries and lives-lost is unsurpassed. The risk is largely magnified for those whose work is in high-speed traffic, especially those at work outside of stopped vehicles. We regret that our brother Michael would be the next casualty.
We pray for Michael's family, friends, co-workers, and all those who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another at this time.
We are proud to render Officer Michael Petrina, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennsylvania State Police
