Reflections for Trooper Chelsea Renee Richard
We mourn the loss of a HERO forever. Chelsea will be loved, remembered and admired by all for her honorable service as Florida's Finest. Chelsea and I came on the Patrol together in the 111th BRC, spending 30 weeks together at the academy. Chelsea was a wonderful person and I miss her. My deepest sympathy to her family, our brothers and sisters with the Florida Highway Patrol and our entire law enforcement family. Rest in eternal peace sister. You're forever in our hearts.

On several occasions Trooper Richard and her fellow Troopers assigned to Marion County have assisted me during traffic stops. As we all know, things can go for the worst quickly, so it was always a blessing to see her patrol car pull up next to mine. For that, my family and I will be forever greatful. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and fellow Troopers. Rest In Peace Trooper Chelsea Richard.

Chelsea,
When I received the phone call of your passing, I was devastated. I will always remember our first day at the FHP academy where I saw you as a petite young girl wearing your hair up, with a big smile on your face as we waited to start our new journey as State Troopers while you shook everyone’s hand, introducing yourself. Like me, you seemed nervous, but happy to be there.
I think it was our second or third day of class when Lt. Casselberry made us get up, one by one and introduce ourselves to our fellow recruits. You went before me and in your strong, Long Island, New York accent said, “Hi. I’m Chelsea Richard and I’m from Patchogue, Long Island.” I remember having a huge smile on my face and feeling a connection to you. It was at that moment when I felt a huge sigh of relief knowing that someone else from my hometown was going through the same thing as I was.
Over thirty weeks, I watched you give our training everything that you had in you, mentally and physically. I watched a petite young girl grow into a law enforcement officer that wouldn’t take anything from anyone. Your attitude, which is VERY similar to mine, made me smile and laugh and I loved how we would give each other a hard time. At our academy banquet I remember us introducing each other to our families and how we thought it was strange that we lived only six miles apart in New York, but had to move to Florida to meet each other.
When we lost our classmate, Patrick Ambroise in the line of duty and we consoled each other at his funeral, I was glad that you were sitting next to me. You made that difficult day a lot easier for me. Now that I have to say goodbye to you, I wonder who will be there for me.
I want you to know that you will never be forgotten and it was a privilege to know you. You’ll always be one of my favorite classmates from the 111th recruit class. Heaven just gained an angel.
Take care, sweetheart.
“Holla.”
Love always,

She went to work one morning and did not know
This shift she served would bring such sorrow
This call to duty would be her last
Her time on earth is now her past
God set this day as her time to go
Rest in peace Trooper Richard, now a hero
She gave the ultimate sacrifice
With integrity and pride she paid the price
Her family, friends and colleagues will mourn
As an angel in heaven she is now reborn
Her golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest

For Trooper Chelsea Richard:
Our duty as law-officers patrolling the highway includes an expanded degree of danger since it includes the issue of high-speed traffic. This intensifies the risk of what is already considered hazardous work. We regret that our sister Chelsea would be the next casualty on this battlefield called a United States highway.
We pray for Chelsea's family, friends, co-workers, and all who care about her. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead, and especially while considering the welfare of her small daughter.
We are proud to render Trooper Chelsea Richard, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.
