I knew this man well on Alaska State Troopers show on National Geographic. He was known as a great family man who loved his family but also called the people of Alaska his family too. I can't believe he's gone and right now I'm shedding tears for him and Scott Johnson for he too is remembered well on the show as a man who cared about the people of Alaska and it's many visitors. God bless them both.

My heart and prayers goes out to your family and friends. May they find peace and understanding. My family and I didn't know you personally but we met you from the show Alaska State Troopers. We have much love and respect for all officers. We love that this show really shows the strength, courage, and heart every officer does on day to day. Trooper Rich, Trooper S. Johnson, and Trooper T.Toll you are missed deeply. Long live your spirit and protect your brothers in arms from heaven....

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Trooper Rich, especially to his fiancee. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts & prayers.
From reading the reflections left for Gabriel, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Gabriel's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Gabriel's life was about so much more than the way he died. Gabriel will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Trooper Rich, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been eleven years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Gabe was killed.
To the Rich family, fellow troopers, and all who call Gabe beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Trooper Rich gave to his community and the citizens of Alaska, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on May 1, 2014.
