Reflections for Police Officer Robert Gordon German

Heroes live forever. Prayers to family and friends.

For Officer Robert German:

The law-officer, no matter the jurisdiction or size of the department, is pitted against individuals who will not hesitate to kill, and with reckless disregard for anyone. We regret that Robert would be the next casualty of those who would kill a law-officer and then, in a wholly cowardly act, destroy themselves.
We pray for Robert's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead.
As a retired state trooper, and Lake County (FL) Sheriff's deputy, I am proud to render Officer Robert German, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennsylvania State Police

Lt. Joseph Ward, Ret.

Rest in peace my brother in blue. Evil will never prosper as long as brave men such as yourself stand for good.

I hope in time your family and agency find peace in your passing.

"Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God." Matthew 5:9

Police Officer II D. Vaquero
San Diego Police Department

March 22, 2014

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Robbie,

Typically, there are two sides of people: the good side and bad side. You weren't that typical person. There was no bad side. There was only the happy-go-lucky Robbie that everyone knows and loves. I will never forget that about you; your smile and chuckle that made you who you are, and your willingness to do "whatever". You had an unmistakenable charisma and great way with people . I had the greatest privilege of working along side of you for those few short years.

You will be greatly missed. Rest in peace brother, we'll take it from here.
