Just saw the episode of deadliest catch where they mention this incident. I had to google his name. What a brave young man. Thank you for your sacrifice in keeping the souls of the Bering sea safe. You will be remembered by all. To the family - I am sorry for your loss. His light still signs bright on the Bering sea. Rest In Peace.

I just read an article in regards to the passing of Travis. My dad (who passed last year at 93) was a Coast Guardsmen since the beginning of WWII and assigned to the Navy on an LST for the duration of the war. He was a gunnery control officer and loved every minute of his time on the ocean. He cherished his time in theUSCG. He taught us all the meaning of love for our country and the sacrifices sometimes made. Rest In Peace young man and you will recognize my dad. He will be wearing his USCG blue

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Travis was killed.

To Travis' family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Petty Officer Obendorf gave to his community and the citizens of our country, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on December 13, 2013.
