Sgt. Stauffer thank you for your service. I had the pleasure of meeting your mother today on her trip to Texas and she told me about the man that you were, about how proud she was of you and how much you loved your family. The pride she has about how great you are showed in more ways than one.

Gale is my son and my best friend. We talked 2-3 times every day. We shared all. I will miss him more than anyone, save God, will ever know. It's been 8 months since he went home, and I still can't get over it. He was one of the bravest people I've ever met. Gale did his job, regardless. His grandfathers, Lt. Kenneth Stauffer and Lt. Col. Gilford Longstreet, greeted him at the Gates of Heaven with pride. Always missing you, son. Rest easy, buddy, we got this.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Gale was killed.

To Gale's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Sgt. Stauffer gave to his community and the citizens of Mississippi, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on December 23, 2013.

On behalf of the Westerville, Ohio Division of Police, our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of Sergeant Kevin "Gale" Stauffer and the extended law enforcement family of the Tupelo, Mississippi Police Department. Rest in Peace brother and watch over us.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

Sgt. Stauffer,

Although I have never met you I will forever be tied to you and your family in our history. I'm truly saddened by your families and departments loss but hope that someone my actions help in the healing process that I'm sure will never be fully healed. From the little that I know about you, you were a true American hero and part of the reason why this is such a great country. I thank you for your service, not only to the police department but also from a grateful nation and hope that your family can now move one step closer in having some closure knowing that the person who took you away from them is no longer in this world.

Where would this nation be without the men and women like Kevin Gale Stauffer? His wife showed the most remarkable poise when she thanked the people of the Tupelo area on TV, Sunday. Anybody could tell from her demeanor that he had to have been an unbelievable guy. She showed the kind of bravery that he would have been so proud of. She, his family and his community have displayed the fact that he was truly the "Best of the Best.".
May God bless all you who serve.
