Reflections for Captain Jerry L. Scantling

I just discovered that Captain Jerry L. Scantling passed in 2008. Jerry and I served together as aboard MCB, Camp Lejeune . We were roommates for a period of time and worked in personnel adminsitration together. I will never forget those fun times we shared as young Marines. Jerry was an outstanding Marine, who loved his family, country and Corps. RIP my dear friend. Semper Fi!

I'm so hurt by this ... Jerry was more than the officer that helped my family through a bad time... He was a Friend!!! He would come by and talk to my brothers that were in a gang and check to see if my mom was good. Whenever I would see him He was genuinely KIND and CARING!!! I'm seriously in shock right now!! I was talking to my brother and Jerry's name came up which caused me to try and find him now... to find out he died!!! To Jerry's family, I'm so sorry for your loss!!!! Your father became my Uncle and friend I will forever be GRATEFUL to him!!! God Bless You all!!!

Sincerely,
Patricia Juste

If there is one thing I learned from Jerry about this job, is that you have to have thick skin if you're going to make it! Jerry would definitely test you in this area, and once he got to know you, there was not a better friend / co-worker. Jerry was one of the most dedicated members of the Onslow County Sheriff's Office and always strived to do what was right! Some of my fondest memories of the OCSO involve Jerry, (especially the white glove through the sunroof of his Lincoln).

Your heroism and service is honored today, the fifth anniversary year of your death. I am privileged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my son.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. I thank you also for your service to our country as an Army soldier. Rest In Peace.

Jerry was my supervisor for many years. Jerry would do some of the funniest things, intentionally and unintentionally. If you worked for Jerry, he treated you like family and he also adopted your family. I am so happy that Jerry is finally recognized on this website. If anyone gave it all to the Onslow County Sheriff's Office, Jerry did! You loved being a law enforcement officer. He will always be missed!

Capt always put a smile on my face with a crazy joke. I will always remember the hats matched the shoes that matched the jeans that matched the shirt that was always crisp and pressed.
you will always be missed and loved
