Reflections for Reserve Officer Robert A. Libke
I hail from a long line of LEO's from many different levels from local, state, federal & military LEO's. We are a family of service.
Reserve Officers are great assets to each agency that is honored enough to have them. Rob sacrificed his life for his community and the outpouring of support for his service was impressive to see.
Though I hadn't had the opportunity to meet Rob personally, I witnessed how his contribution to the profession impacted others and I attended the funeral service. The line of vehicles in the procession spanned over 20 miles long and the service was befitting of a hero's sendoff. Sadly, these events always come as a result of a tragedy.
Rob is greatly missed, even by those who never met him. My condolences to his family, both blood & blue.

I met officer Libke a couple years before his death. His kindness and friendly demeanor overwhelmed us as he gave us directions in downtown OC. My house is a block away from the location that he was shot... I will never forget that night. Emergency lights everywhere, our neighborhood was on lockdown. It will always haunt me, seeing that burning house as we drove home. Rest well, you are missed and remembered by everyone in the state of Oregon.

Thank you for your service. It saddens me that you were killed while you were protecting others from harm.
I know there are no words that can take away the pain of your loved ones. I can only hope that they eventually find solace in knowing that your life was "given" and that you continue to give through your sacrifice.

Two years ago today somebody thought they had the right to take you. It still upsets me and still brings me sorrow. I have not forgotten you Rob. I often go hunting and think about how much you loved to hunt too. I sometimes feel guilty that I still get to hunt, but you don't. The year you left us I killed a deer for you. You must have been with me because I said I was gonna get one! I will do the same for you this year. I often look at my daughter and feel sadness that you don't get to see yours. However, your passing gives me a greater appreciation for the precious days I have. Miss you.

I have laid down my life in service to all of you.
I have been a part of the fabric that has held the line between your safety and your victimization. I have given my life so that others may live in peace. I have lived my life as a dedicated member of the greatest profession. There is no greater honor.
As I now become a part of the rich history of law enforcement, please remember me always for I have left behind those who loved and depended upon me.
My partners and my agency, please remember my family, their loss, and don’t let time soften your compassion for them.
You guard the gate now and I will continue my watch from above.
MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND MAY YOUR FAMILY FIND COMFORT IN THE GOOD YOU HAVE DONE HERE ON EARTH.
