The stories we could tell years ago. You were my brother, friend, and back-up. You were there for my family when I was in Iraq and when I was sick. If I could only have one Officer to back me on any call it would be you. You were honorable, fair, and just. Sorry, I missed our lunch plans two weeks ago.
Your Friend, Driver.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Gainesville Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother.

Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“ uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place. As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say its Ok you’re with your eternal partners. A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

The police officer stood and faced his Maker, which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining brightly as his brass. “Step forward now, police officer how shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek? To your Maker, have you been true?” The police officer, with squared shoulders, said “No sir, I guess I haven't Because those of us who carry badges can’t always be a saint.

I’ve had to work most Sunday’s and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I’ve been violent, because the streets are tough. But I never took a penny, that wasn’t mine to keep.

Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep. And I never passed by a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear, and sometimes, please forgive me, I’ve wept unmanly tears. I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here.

They never wanted me around except to calm their fears. But if you have a place for me here, well…it need not be too grand. I never expected or had too much so if you don’t…I’ll understand.”

There was silence all around the room where the saints respectfully stood. As the police officer waited quietly for the judgment…bad or good. “Step forward now, police officer, you’ve borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven’s streets, You’ve done your time in hell.”
