Regrettable. Here in Brazil are killed hundreds of police officers per year. The difference here in the United States laws are severe and function. In Brazil the majority of criminals ends up being freed by judicial flaws and loopholes absurd.

Rest in peace Derek. You are such a kind man. It is so unfair for you to have had your life taken. I will never forget your smile and your white legs that you continually showed me and sierra at camp just 2 weekends ago! I will miss hunting with you! My heart goes out to his parents, his siblings, all of his aunts and uncles, his grandma, and especially shante and ben. Prayers are with you guys! We love you guys!

A couple years ago Sgt. Johnson and I worked a few forgery cases together and served a search warrant on one of my probationers homes. He had her dead to rights, but showed compassion by not throwing the book at her. When we served the search warrant I had already secured an arrest warrant for her as well. She had a small boy at home with her that we were afraid to leave with her brother. Sgt. Johnson offered to stay at the residence until DCFS arrived to take custody of the child as well as book my probationer into jail on the warrant. Then when I received his report on the new forgeries it was very thorough and well written, more so than most reports I usually read.
It is unusual for me to remember names of officers I work with, but this one experience with Sgt. Johnson stood out causing me to remember him by name. When I received the text about the shooting in Draper I was hoping it wasn't him. I was saddened to learn it was.

God didn’t promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain; but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears and light for the way.
Rest in peace.
