To the family and friends of Officer Donald Bishop and his felloiw deputies:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Donald was killed.

To Officer Bishop's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Bishop gave to his community and the citizens of Wisconsin and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 12, 2013.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Officer Bishop,

You can rest easy. Many who have gone before you were there to welcome you, those left behind will carry your torch.

To Your Family,

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray, “Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for over two years. Feel those prayers. God is with you, He knows and will ease your pain.

With Much Faith,
Pam

For Police Officer Donald Bishop:

Our duty as law-officers is fraught with stress and high-risk and none among us is without concern of the effect it has on our health, despite measures to keep healthy and fit.
We regret that Don would be the next law-officer to suffer from fatal heart disease - and at the worst possible moment.
We pray for Don's family, friends, co-workers, and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another at this time.
We are proud to render Officer Don Bishop, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

My husband is a retired police sergeant. Many times I worried about him not coming home. My prayers are with his family.

My nephew is now a sergeant with the police department. Once again I worry and pray continuosly for him and his family.

This job is so dangerous and not treated with respect that it deserves. They also are underpaid for putting their live in danger all the time. I hope everyone appreciates what Officer Don Bishop and his family have given up.
