Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. Sometimes I get mad, sometimes I don't understand, sometimes I feel anxiety, and sometimes I get sad and cry. There's a lot of unsettled emotions. I walk around and do my best to carry on. I have a daughter that I need to be strong for. If it wasn't for her, I would still be angry all the time. I walk around as an internally wounded officer...just learned to hide it now a days. I miss your laugh, wish you were still around.

A few days ago, I rode for you in the Police Unity Tour. I did not know you but that isn't important. What is, is that you gave your life in service to the community. Just know that your light will shine in the people who you touched. Rest in peace Elizabeth, you will not be forgotten.

To the family and friends of Detective Elizabeth Butler and her fellow officers:
On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Elizabeth was brutally murdered.
To Detective Butler's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Detective Butler gave to her community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice she and her family made on February 26, 2013.

Though I never knew her, she was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace through such incidents & He will judge the guilty. May family & friends feel the presence of the "God of All Comfort" as they endure the distressing days ahead. I join them in their agonizing grief & remember them in my prayers.
Another senseless tragedy
Another day of grief,
Another day of praying
To help us find relief.
Relief from bitter anguish
Relief from rage so great,
Relief from lenient justice
Which continues to seal our fate.
Relief from heartache’s torment
As we continue on,
Oh, the awesome loss of brotherhood
Now that you are gone.
Though our hearts are deeply broken
And our tears forever flow,
There’s a comforting assurance
That now with God you go.
We know that you are welcome
Now at Heaven’s gate,
While meeting brothers & sisters
Who also met such fate.
The family of Law Enforcement
Knows no distance here or there,
And we recall in comfort
You await us there.
