Ofc. Kevin Tonn was 'get it done' kind of guy and always had a smile on his face. He was dedicated to his K-9 partner Yaro and spent many extra hours in training and working together. They had a wonderful bond and K-9 Yaro was very devoted to his handler.
He not only served his community well but spent countless hours of his own time helping other K-9 teams. He was in the process of raising funds for a new K-9 for the Galt PD K-9 Unit, he served on the Board of the Foothills K-9 Association and helped every year with the Police & Working K-9 Foundation "Cover Your K-9" campaign.
Last month he attended our "Cover Your K-9" Emergency Medicine Course along with 90 other K-9 handlers and members of K-9 command staff. Ever the enterprising fundraiser for the Galt PD K-9 unit, he made sure that many of those there attending & volunteering left with either a Galt PD K9 sweatshirt or a K-9 mug!
He would drive many miles to perform K-9 demonstrations with K-9 Yaro & to help educate kids & interested citizens about the important jobs that K-9 teams perform. He was an awesome ambassador for K-9 teams around Northern California.
This is a heartbreaking loss and he will be deeply missed by his family, community, department and his large family of K-9 friends.
We are sending our prayers to his family, the Galt PD family, his fellow Foothills K-9 Assoc members and K-9 handlers. We are also keeping K-9 Yaro in our thoughts and prayers too.
Officer Tonn, thank you for your friendship, your service and sacrifice for us all.
We will miss you and always remember you.
