David, I met you and your partner Clark when you to responded to a burglary at a business where I worked. You and Clark changed my perception of police. Thank you.

I attended your memorial dedication today where your name was added to the fallen Officers wall outside the Jefferson County Court House. I spoke with your wife and sons. Your boys have grown into men and you would be so proud of them. I still can't get over how good men die so young, but I know God had a plan for you. I just heard a Birmingham Police Officer was killed in the line of duty an hour ago. It never get's easier hearing this kind of news, no matter how old we are. We still miss you David, and we will never forget you.

David, I really don't know how to begin. You were an inspiration to me when I first worked with you at the Birmingham Police Department 26 years ago. I remember you always treated people with respect when you approached them on the street. However, if they got out of line and became disorderly, you would flip a switch and take immediate control of the situation. I never knew anyone who made the switch faster or better. When you retired and went to Fultondale PD, I followed you. While at FPD, I remember you coming in on night shift, and saying, "Good Evening everyone. Is my coffee ready?" Our dispatcher, Cissy, would always have a fresh pot waiting for you. You loved hunting with your sons and would bring deer chili to the station. I could go on and on, but let me close with this. I loved you like a brother. You were a great officer and close friend. RIP, my friend.

Your heroism and service is honored today. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.
