Reflections for Deputy Sheriff C. Anthony Rakes
RIP Brother....see you at the Big House
Retired Trooper A.D.Dezso

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

Its terrible to see random crimes like this. I respect and appreciate police officers and everything they do for this great nation. That is why now every officer that falls in the line of duty from here on out I am going to send a written letter with condolences and a prayer for the families and the department/agencies.

Deputy Rakes, You have entered into the presence of God, you have joined all the other heroes who went before you.
To your family:
Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.
Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray, “Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with loving, caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name, Amen”
I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for 21 months. Feel those prayers. God is with you, He knows and will ease your pain.

For Deputy Sheriff Anthony Rakes:
The law officer on patrol faces countless situations whereby he or she might be seriously injured or killed. It is essential that we attempt to utilize every advantage to avoid the worst of outcomes doing our duty. We regret that Anthony would be the next officer to forfeit his life in the protection of the public. Anthony now stands before us in eternity among the bravest.
We are grateful for the actions of fellow law-officers who responded quickly and were able to capture those responsible for this heinous offense. Cooperation among law officers remains our most certain insurance that cop-killers will be swiftly brought to justice, and it will remain so - forever.
We pray for Anthony's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead.
We are proud to render Deputy Anthony Rakes, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
